Internation Childrens Digital Library or ICDL, is a non-profit corporation that is providing a way to collect childrens literature from around the world by their creation of a website that includes and advocates literature of diverse cultures.  One of the goals or mission of the organization is to make books available in various native tongues and have them readily available online for others who would like to access them.  Some children and families would like to see more books on their own culture as well as the majority one.  These families may have had to move around from country to country for many reasons, therefore, they've left behind books that were part of their family's heritage.  Putting together this website was a way for the ICDL organization to create a priceless resource free of charge for them and many others like them.  ICDL has founded seven different programs within their organization with all being tax deductible if you want to give or help in some way.  I feel that anyone who reads for pleasure as well as teachers and librarians who promote reading in other ways, can pull up these digital books, place them on a computerized projector, and share them with other children and adults for their ultimate enjoyment and to also have them gain exposure to new languages.
